Gaitley Hired As LIU Coach
Stephanie Gaitley was hired Wednesday to coach the women's basketball team at Long Island University after leading Saint Joseph's to five 20-wins seasons and three NCAA tournaments. Gaitley replaces Tony Bozella, who became the coach at Iona. Gaitley has a record of 312-151 in 16 seasons as a coach. She went 196-88 in 10 seasons at Saint Joseph's and 116-63 in six seasons at Richmond. Gaitley was fired by Saint Joseph's in April 2001 after she was accused of retaliating against a former player who filed a sexual-harassment complaint against her husband, Frank, a former assistant coach.
